What is ABA?
ABA stands for Applied Behavior Analysis. It is a framework created to treat socially significant problems (such as ASD), by “applying” “behavior principles” and “analyzing” the results.
What is ABA therapy?
An ABA therapy session involves manipulating the environment to increase learning opportunities and decrease disruptive behavior. Typically, this is started in therapy sessions in the home (through your home program) and later generalized to other environments (school, the community, peers). Since your home ABA therapy sessions will be the backbone of your child's learning and development, it is important to set it up correctly as well as have it supervised regularly.
Why ABA?
ABA is considered the “gold standard” for autism treatment, so much so that it is recommended by the Surgeon General as the most effective treatment for autism. Personally, I have found ABA therapy to be the most effective form of intervention for all children with learning challenges.
